1 Day Tour to Kalouts

This full-day excursion begins at 7:00 AM from your accommodation in Kerman. Accompanied by your guide, you will travel to the village of Sirch, the birthplace of the renowned Iranian author Houshang Moradi Kermani, best known for his beloved “Stories of Majid.” Here, you will also visit the village’s magnificent thousand-year-old cypress tree, one of the region’s most remarkable natural landmarks.

After a short break, we continue toward Shahdad. Along the way, we will visit one of the area’s ancient qanats, an impressive example of Persia’s traditional water-management system and engineering heritage. Upon arrival in Shahdad, we will explore the historic Six-Windcatcher Water Reservoir (Ab Anbar), a masterpiece of desert architecture designed to provide cooling and water storage in the harsh climate of the Lut Desert.

Our journey then takes us to the village of Shafiabad, recognized in 2025 by UN Tourism as one of the World’s Best Tourism Villages. Here, we will visit the beautifully preserved Qajar-era caravanserai and enjoy a leisurely walk through the village, experiencing its authentic atmosphere and traditional way of life.

For lunch and relaxation, we will stop at one of the village’s charming eco-lodges, where you will enjoy local hospitality, traditional tea, and Kolompeh, Kerman’s famous date-filled pastry.

At the most suitable time of the afternoon, we will leave Shafiabad and head toward the magical landscape of the Shahdad Kalouts, often described as the “imaginary city” of the Lut Desert. We will spend 1 to 2 hours walking among these extraordinary natural formations, sculpted by wind and time into one of the world’s most spectacular desert landscapes.

In the profound silence of the desert, we will watch the breathtaking sunset as the Kalouts glow with changing colors in the fading light. After darkness falls, we will move to another area of the Kalouts to admire the dazzling night sky. Far from city lights, the Lut Desert offers exceptional stargazing opportunities and an unforgettable view of the stars.

After spending time under the magnificent desert sky, we will return to Kerman and drop you off at your accommodation, bringing this memorable journey through culture, history, village life, and the wonders of the Lut Desert to a close.
